German nuclear power decision weighs down operating profit by SEK 10.2 billion

Vattenfall is reporting a lower operating profit for the second quarter, 12.2 SEK billion, mainly due to the German parliament's decision to phase out the country's nuclear power, but also because the company could not repeat the high production and sales volumes it had during the corresponding quarter a year ago.

Vattenfall Europe AG, the German subsidiary of Vattenfall AB, decided yesterday during an extra-ordinary Shareholder’s Meeting to squeeze out the remaining minority shareholders in the company. They will be paid a compensation of € 42.60 per share*.

The Vattenfall Group has today presented its best annual results ever:
· Net sales increased by 13.9 % to SEK 129,158 million (113,366).
· Operating profit excluding items affecting comparability increased by 28.0 % to 24,744 million (19,327).
· Net profit after tax excluding items affecting comparability increased by 59.2 % to SEK 17,364 million (10,909).
· Operating profit excluding items affecting comparability, for the fourth quarter increased by 45.3 % to SEK 7,264 million (5,001).

Vattenfall shall, within the framework of the requirement for business professionalism, devote special attention to the development of new electricity generation technology and thereby contribute to a Swedish electricity supply that is both ecologically and economically sustainable.
