SWECO TO STUDY POWER SHORTAGE AROUND LAKE VICTORIA

Sweco will study the potential and present proposals for interconnection of the power grids between Uganda and Tanzania in order to reduce the current shortage of power in the region. The contract is worth around EUR 1,227,000.

”Over the past 50 years Sweco has worked in many African countries to improve access to electricity in both urban and rural areas,” says Eva Nygren, President of Sweco Sweden.

There is still a serious lack of electricity in many parts of Africa, a problem that is creating obstacles for commercial development and social progress.
By interconnecting the power grids around Lake Victoria it is possible to reduce the shortage and ensure a more stable electricity supply in the region. The assignment is being carried out on behalf of Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited with financing from the World Bank.

Sweco is already involved in similar assignments in countries like Botswana, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Angola and Tanzania.
