Sigma collaborates with Xh Mobile Solutions for the social safety app WalkMeHome for the iPhone.

Sigma has begun development of the WalkMeHome app for the iPhone. Together with XhMobile Solutions, we are working with the new app for the iOS platform. The app is expected to be released during the late autumn of 2011.

WalkMeHome

"Just knowing that someone knew where I was would be reassuring"

"I'd feel much more at ease if I knew that when I felt threatened, I could easily get the attention of my friends and maybe even others who might help me out"

This is what two young women we spoke with had to say, who either call a friend or pretend to call a friend when they're on the way home and feel they might be in danger. Many women often feel insecure, especially in situations when they are walking home in the dusk or after sunset.

This is why WalkMeHome is being launched, a smartphone app that makes it easier to feel safe by having quick and close contact with selected friends and relatives – one's personal guardian angels. Anyone with a cell phone can be a guardian angel. Regardless of whether they have a conventional cell phone or a smartphone, and regardless of whether they have an Android, Windows, iPhone (iOS) or a Symbian phone.

In the app, the user can choose guardian angels and in this way create a social micro-network of people that he or she trusts and who are available when they're needed the most.

Here is an instructional video on YouTube that shows how the app works. WalkMeHome is the first in a series of intuitive smartphone apps from Xh Mobile Solutions that are intended to increase safety in society.

The design was developed by InUse and the technical solution worked out by Jayway for Android, and by Sigma for iOS.

ABOUT the app

The first version of WalkMeHome was developed for Android phones. The application has been available at Android Market since September 1, 2011. We will be offering WalkMeHome version 1.0 free of charge to customers in Sweden during an introductory phase. The first version is in Swedish but an English version will soon be launched. During the autumn of 2011, WalkMeHome will also be launched for the iPhone.

ABOUT Swedes and safety

Despite Swedes being a relatively secure people, three of four believe that crime in society is on the rise. Above all it is women who feel insecure. All of 24 percent of women say that they feel rather or very threatened and 10 percent say that they do not go out because of the perceived danger. Moreover, 34 percent of the women say that they worry that someone close to them will be subjected to violence, which can be compared to 22 percent for men.
