Sectra receives order for Wide Area Radiology PACS in Sweden worth $2M USD.

Sectra has signed a contract with the county of Gävleborg in Sweden for a
multi hospital PACS. In total there are three hospitals and three satellite
clinics in the county. The project is the third and final phase in making the
whole county film free. In the beginning of next year three of the six
departments will be fully digital and all departments will work with digital
request forms. The first phases of the order were received by Sectra in 1995-
1997 comprising archiving, teleradiology and film-free operation in the
hospital of Ljusdal.
"The pilot project in Ljusdal has proven to be even more profitable than we
had hoped, says Dr Anders Persson chief radiologist of Hälsingland hospitals.
The fully implemented system will allow us to utilize our resources better as
the physical borders and the distance between the hospitals vanishes."
A Wide Area Network based on ATM connects the clinics. Sectra's unique
modular architecture will be used to achieve one virtual radiology department
over the six clinics, allowing for large savings for the hospitals. A central
long-term 20 TB archive is used for prolonged on-line capacity and for
automatic backup.
