Sectra and Voxar sign clinical solutions agreement
11/23/2001 4:02 AM EST
The Swedish medical technology and IT company Sectra, has signed a
clinical solutions agreement with Voxar, one of the leading 3D medical
imaging companies, for the integration of Voxar's 3D imaging technology
in Sectra's digital radiology systems.
As a result of this agreement it will be possible to use advanced 3D
display and rendering tools from Voxar's Plug n View 3D software, as a
part of Sectra's workstation for digital radiology.
Through co-operations of this kind, Sectra strives to increase customer
benefit, delivering the latest clinical innovations with a partner
network of highly specialized companies. The agreement with Voxar is one
of several special partner applications that Sectra will present at the
annual RSNA radiology congress in Chicago, November 25-30 2001.
Voxar develops 3D imaging software that allows radiologists to generate
2D and 3D views from computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI) medical scan data. The easy-to-use software makes it
possible to work with large datasets and communicate findings quickly to
referring physicians, improving clinical workflow and the speed and
accuracy of treatment planning.
"This cooperation with Sectra will increase Voxar's availability in
European and global markets, allowing Voxar to offer users of Sectra's
workstation access to leading 3D technology with real clinical
benefits," says Andrew Bissell, Voxar's chief executive officer.
The 3D software will be opened directly from Sectra's digital radiology
system, so the user will access the new functionality in one click and
experience a single application. This seamless integration simplifies
the user's work, since it is no longer necessary to switch between
different programmes or indeed different workstations, to use the two
products in parallel.
"Sectra works with open systems. In order to further increase our
customer's benefit from our product we give other suppliers the
opportunity to integrate their clinical applications on top of our
workstations." says Anders Brodin, product manager at Sectra Imtec.
"With this kind of cooperations we create, as the only company in the
business, a large selection of high quality applications (plug-ins) on a
single platform" says Torbjörn Kronander, president of Sectra Imtec.
"All with the aim of maximising the benefit that the customer gets from
our platform for digital radiology."
Sectra is one of today's major PACS providers with more than 200 PACS
installations worldwide. The Swedish based company operates through
partners in most of the world, but delivers directly to end customers in
Northern Europe. The core business is to deliver top-of-the-line high-
availability, robust enterprise PACS for 24/7 operation. In Sweden,
which is currently the country with the largest penetration of PACS in
the world, Sectra holds a dominant market leadership with more than 60%
of all film free installations. The company has its largest number of
installed systems in Sweden and the US (through partners), but has also
an installed base in Germany, Norway, Finland, UK, Italy, Spain, The
