Historic Morgan sells for £120,000

A 1961 Morgan +4, the Le Mans class winner in 1962 has been sold post auction for £120,000 following the Walter Hayes Sale last Friday (4th November).
Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “This Morgan is possibly one of the finest and most successful examples of this famous British marque. It just oozes history from every angle and harks back to a golden era of motor racing, so it’s no surprise that it’s been sold so soon after the auction.”
The 1961 LawrenceTune prepared model has been raced at some of the world’s most inspiring and demanding race tracks including Goodwood, Monza, Spa and Nurburgring.
The fully restored “low line” Super Sports trim model (which was Lot 158), finished in stunning British racing green and with a genuine factory hardtop, was one of the star attractions at the auction held in Silverstone’s ‘Wing’ building. Despite significant interest and a number of bids it failed to achieve its reserve price on the day.
However, Silverstone Auctions is proud to announce a post auction sale.
“While the Morgan wasn’t sold at auction it did attract a lot of attention and create a real stir. We’ve been kept busy fielding enquiries for it and other models following the event. It goes to show that it’s not the end of the story just because it might not sell on the day. In fact, we are very proud of the amount of hard work we put in post auction to conclude a further eight sales,” adds Nick.
