AGE CONCERN’S BREAKFAST CLUB GETS THE ‘UGO’ AHEAD

Brand new discount store, UGO, which is part of the Haldane Retail Group presented Age Concern with a donation on Wednesday (18th May) to help start up their new healthy eating Breakfast Club in the Lundwood area.
Age Concern’s new Feel Good Breakfast Club is a new initiative to promote healthy eating in some of the most deprived areas in the borough, with the first group opening in the community centre in Lundwood which is sited opposite the new UGO store.

The event will give members of the community an opportunity to enjoy a healthy breakfast whilst socialising and meeting friends both old and new. They are also looking to develop personal skills for service users with learning difficulties.

To kick the event off which starts on Thursday 2nd June, Age Concern required a small start up fund of £50 to cover the initial food costs. When Arthur Harris, CEO of Haldane Retail Group was approached he was more than happy to be involved. The discount supermarket not only donated £100 but have also provided Age Concern with a staff discount card for use in the new Barnsley store.

Arthur Harris said “When hearing about what Age Concern were doing for the local area I was delighted to help out. We always aim to become part of the community in which we operate and hopefully this can be the start of a long term relationship

“Healthy eating is an important part of our lives and for people to come together in a local community, learn about healthy eating and socialise with new people at the same time can only be a good thing”
