FOND FAREWELL TO ZOO STALWARTS

Blackpool Zoo is set to say goodbye to its two longest serving team members as both retire following a combined 80 years’ service.

Assistant Director, Russell Catlow and Zoo Vet, Mike Fielding have both been involved with the zoo since it opened 40 years ago and bid a fond farewell on January 31st 2012.

A disabled woman from Blackpool has spent two months building a doll’s house to donate to Blackpool Zoo for its 2012 fundraising efforts.

Lynne Gorrie,who has very limited use of the right side of her body, has designed and built the delightful miniature wooden home and is hoping to raise money to save animals in South East Asia.

The latest investment at Blackpool Zoo is sure to have bird lovers flocking!

Penguins in no hurry to get wet!

The UK’s only two Maganellic penguin chicks are refusing to get their feet wet!

The fluffy pair, who hatched at Blackpool Zoo just eight weeks ago, seem to be suffering from a spot of hydrophobia.

Keepers were encouraged when the chicks started to appear at the front of the nest in mid-July and it was expected that they would be starting to show interest in the pool by now.

Blackpool Zoo Keeper Emma Banks is flying high after scoring top marks at the end of the first year of her Advanced National Diploma in the Management of Zoo Animals.

The youngest member of Blackpool Zoo’s flamingo flock thinks it is a zoo keeper!
Shortly after hatching on July 18th this year, the fluffy flamingo ‘imprinted’ on the first living creature it saw - namely James Mulvany , Blackpool Zoo’s Senior Bird and Reptile Keeper.
