NCC secures order valued at SEK 130 million to extend chromium mine in Finland

Outokumpu Chrome has awarded NCC a contract on tunneling works at their
mine located in Kemi. The total scope of works consisting of sloping and
horizontal tunnels amounts to approximately 15 km. The cross-sectional
2 area of the tunnels varies between 20-40 m . The time for completion is 33
months starting April 2000 and ending December 2002. By its form the
contract is a unit-price contract with the total value of FIM 80-90
million (MSEK 120-130) given the planned quantities. The quarrying
equipment comes mainly from Sweden. The contract employs appr. 25
employees.
The contract is implemented jointly by NCC Sweden and NCC Finland. The
previous Fenno-Swedish co-operation project was the reconstruction of
Päijänne tunnel.
According to NCC's corporate strategy the existing resources are united to
be able to offer demanding civil engineering services in the Scandinavian
countries.
The new contract consolidates NCC Finland's position among the civil
engineering companies with a wide range of services. The largest project
of NCC Finland Civil Engineering Unit currently underway is the container
terminal being built at Kotka harbour.
