Revised 4X4 Off Road Courses Now Available

Three fully revised 4X4 Off Road Driving courses are now available from Lantra Awards for professional, recreational and experienced drivers wanting to operate a 4x4 vehicle in an off road environment.

Beneficial to learners or hobbyists interested in off road sport, leisure and recreation, these courses have been developed for individuals with different experience levels. The courses available are: 4X4 Professional Off Road Driving, 4X4 Recreational Off Road Driving and Off Road Driving for Experienced Drivers.

These courses are designed to help learners:
• Prepare the vehicle for use off road
• Assess the suitability of the ground/route
• Identify a 4x4’s loading and towing capacities
• Drive over a variety of terrain
• Identify risks associated with off road 4x4 use
• Understand how to comply with the legal requirements of off road driving.

Training is a legal requirement for people who drive off road for business purposes under ‘The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER),’ so employers must provide adequate training in the safe use of 4x4s for their drivers. These courses were designed closely with the Health and Safety Executive to ensure they reflect current safe working practices.

Lesley Barr, Head of Product Development at Lantra Awards said: “Serious 4x4 accidents can and do occur without proper training, but used correctly, 4x4s are very versatile vehicles with a wide variety of uses. Even the most experienced drivers can find themselves in hazardous and potentially dangerous situations, so it is vital to ensure they are trained to the required standard.

“Lantra Awards has many years’ experience of developing training courses of the highest standards. The 4x4 courses are delivered exclusively through a network of approved registered training providers and instructors, so learners will be trained by people who are qualified and experienced with 4x4s.”
