Consultation Underway to develop an Apprenticeship for Nursing Assistants in a Veterinary Setting

For immediate release

Veterinary practices across the UK have until 30 September 2011 to participate in a consultation, organised by Lantra, focusing on the proposed development of a new Level 2 Intermediate/Foundation Apprenticeship for support and auxiliary staff in veterinary practice.

Practices can get involved by taking part in the online survey, which will help decide whether there is sufficient evidence showing the need for the development of this Apprenticeship framework. While the proposed Level 2 Apprenticeship would be primarily available for use in England and Wales, Lantra, the Sector Skills Council supporting the UK’s veterinary activities, is asking for feedback and participation from practices UK-wide.

Veterinary professionals can also participate and have their say at the Lantra stand during this year’s BVA Congress on 23-24 September. If it is decided there is a requirement to further develop the Apprenticeship Framework, the draft framework can be reviewed online during October and at the BVNA Congress on 7-9 October.

RVN Lisa Jarvis leads Lantra’s work with the animal health and welfare industries. She will be working with Jo-Anne Bryan, Lantra’s Apprenticeship Manager to support this consultation and liaise with industry to make sure the framework is designed to best support the needs of veterinary practices.

Lisa said: “We need practices to get involved and provide guidance and feedback to guarantee that all staff working in a practice have the opportunity to undergo appropriate training including the fundamental skills needed by a employers. We need your support and expertise to shape the Level 2 Intermediate/Foundation Apprenticeship for Nursing Assistants in a Veterinary Setting.”
