Training goes in-house at Scott Rees

PERSONAL injury specialists Scott Rees & Co has appointed its first in-house Training Officer.
Solicitor Maureen Riordan was recruited to fulfil the new role, bringing her expertise as a former Open University lecturer and more than 10 years as a solicitor working predominantly in personal injury.

Maureen has joined Scott Rees, which employs more than 200 members of staff, from Snipelaw in Blackpool.

She said “Scott Rees employs staff from a wide range of backgrounds, including qualified solicitors, law graduates and individuals with a claims or insurance background.

“My role is to assess the training needs of the firm and implement a programme in tune with its specific needs, while enhancing the thriving environment of continuous professional development.

“We are doing as much training on site as possible; I might take a group of 10 members of staff to concentrate on key areas, or if required provide one-to-one tuition.”

Maureen’s skills as a tutor - teaching an undergraduate introductory course in law - combined with her experience as a personal injury solicitor are already proving a valuable asset to the firm.

Royston Smith, Managing Partner of Scott Rees, said: “As a PI solicitor, Maureen is acutely aware of the day-to-day requirements of managing casework and dealing with clients in order to provide the highest standards of service.

“Scott Rees already has a proud tradition of supporting careers including sponsored development through the Institute of Legal Executives.

“Maureen’s role now gives us greater control over our day-to-day training requirements, with more flexibility and immediacy to respond to specific training needs.”
