HEART-RENDING GORILLA PHOTOGRAPH WINS TWO NATIONAL AWARDS

A heart-rending photograph capturing an intimate moment between a new born baby gorilla and her mother at Blackpool Zoo has scooped two top awards at the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquarium (BIAZA) awards 2010.

It was taken by regular zoo visitor Sharon Bentley, who has had no photography training, just days after Meisie the Western Lowland gorilla was born in May this year.

Blackpool Zoo scooped one of the top accolades from the zoo world at the prestigious British & Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) awards 2010.

Animal mad Thomas Mayhew from Hyde is officially a bookworm!

The six-year-old has been crowned the winner of Blackpool Zoo’s monthly bookworm competition, which was launched on World Book Day this year.

Blackpool Zoo Keeper Emma Banks is flying high after scoring top marks at the end of the first year of her Advanced National Diploma in the Management of Zoo Animals.

Scott Rees has welcomed a new partner to its management team.

Solicitor Jonathan Evans, who heads the firm’s Employer and Public Liability section, has been promoted to partnership level at the North West firm of personal injury specialists.
