Exhibition winners announced

'Rural landscapes and structures' photography exhibition at Harper Adams
The winners of the 2011 Harper Adams Photography Exhibition were revealed last night at a special launch event on campus.
More than 70 amateur photographers submitted work fitting the ‘rural landscapes and structures’ theme, with a total of 240 digital photographs received. All entrants have a link to Shropshire.
The eight winning photographs are now being made into a series of gift cards to be sold at the Harper Adams Farmers Market on December 4, and from the University College website in due course.
Exhibition Organiser, Janine Heath, said: “Today’s event, kindly sponsored by Strutt and Parker and Savills, was not just to announce the winners, but to also gather all of the photographers together to share their work as a digital exhibition.
“We’re really pleased that so many people chose to enter the exhibition, and like last year, the standard of work is fantastic.
“Together, the top eight photographs really complement each other and we hope that people will enjoy sending them out as gift cards.”
This year, the judging panel featured professional photographer, Steve Lumley, Rural Enterprise and Land Management Lecturer, Simon Keeble, and Janine Heath.
They chose the overall winner of the exhibition to be Martin James’s photograph of a wild horse on the Long Mynd.
Martin, 51, from Church Aston, said: “I was on my way to Church Stretton to photograph a sunset when I saw the horses on the Long Mynd so carefully approached them.
“It’s fantastic to be chosen as the winner as I thought it fitted the theme well, I’m very pleased with the result.
Awarded second place was Richard Greswell with his photograph of sheep grazing in snow. Richard, 55, from Newport, said: “The photograph was completely fortuitous and captures a rare moment.
“I’m pleased my photograph has been chosen to be made into a gift card.”
The other winners were Claire Robertson-Bennett from Telford, Danny Beath from Shrewsbury, James Smith from Telford, Harper Adams post-graduate student Tom Williams, Sue Llewellyn from Shrewsbury and Josie Brough from Stratford-upon-Avon.
