Ericsson cooperates in world's first 3G international roaming test call
12/21/2001 8:06 AM EST
The trial call was set up between J-Phone in Japan and Vodafone in Spain
and marks a significant advancement in the roll out of 3G.
The trial result proves J-Phone's 3G subscriber is able to receive and
make calls on the same handset, using the same subscriber number while
traveling overseas.
All calls made during the trial used a complete 3G network supplied by
Ericsson, J-Phones main supplier.
Ericsson is also the main supplier of J-Phone's advanced PDC (2G)
nationwide network including the Packet Functionality (2,5G).
Ericsson is the world leader in 3G, having already delivered WCDMA
systems, including macro base stations, to more than 40 operators around
the world. Commercial 3G handsets will be available in second half of
2002 from several vendors, including SonyEricsson.
Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet
communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing
innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to
create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
