York’s going pink to beat breast cancer!
Watch out for pink buildings and fundraisers this month as Paint the Town Pink returns to York for the third year running to raise money for breast cancer research.
Paint the Town Pink is an annual initiative where Breast Cancer Campaign aims to turn the whole of York as pink as possible. Last year the event was supported by many local businesses and fundraisers in the area, including the Coppergate Centre, Monks Cross Shopping Centre and shops along the Shambles, who helped raise over £15,000 to help the charity continue funding vital breast cancer research.
There are plenty of activities taking place throughout the month from street collections to fundraising events including York’s Pink Walk. Back for its second year, the walk is the main event in the Paint the Town Pink calendar and takes place on Thursday 27 October. Starting at the Coppergate Centre at 7pm, the walk takes you along the river and through the historic city centre, passing buildings illuminated pink!
Berwick Kaler, York’s pantomime Dame, took to the streets of York last week with Campaign volunteers to mark the start of Paint the Town Pink and encourage people to get involved.
Berwick said: “Paint the Town Pink is a great initiative and this year it is set to be bigger and pinker than ever before. There are so many ways to get involved, from buying a pink ribbon badge to taking part in an event, so I urge everyone to show their support this month and help raise funds for Breast Cancer Campaign.”
