Powys tutor’s great race to beat breast cancer

A Powys tutor has pulled on her running shoes to train for the Bupa Great North Run in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign.

Lucy Williams, who is a part-time tutor at Coleg Powys, will join 54,000 runners on the starting line for the 13.1 mile race in Newcastle on Sunday 18 September after people close to her have been affected by breast cancer.

She said: “I’ve had friends who have fought breast cancer, some have won but sadly others have not. Running for Campaign will really help me do my bit to support and also remember my friends who have been touched by breast cancer.”

Lucy is aiming to raise £500 or more for Campaign and is already well on her way to reaching her target. She said: “Breast cancer affects so many people so I want to raise as much money as I can to help Breast Cancer Campaign continue funding vital research.”

Lucy has always wanted to run the Great North Run. She said: “I am running with my sister and we’ve been doing lots of training in preparation for the race; it’s hard work but it will all be worth it when we cross the finish line!”
