Pink Curry night raises over £600 for breast cancer research

A Pink Curry evening organised by a Breast Cancer Campaign volunteer group in North Tyneside has raised over £600 for breast cancer research.

The fundraising evening, held to raise money in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign, took place at The Daraz restaurant in Holly Avenue West in Jesmond, where over 70 people arrived in pink outfits to enjoy Indian cuisine and help raise money for the charity.

As well as a pink theme, the volunteer group also organised a raffle and a quiz to help boost the fundraising total.

This was the second year the pink event has been held at the restaurant, which closed its doors especially for the one evening in October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Last year the evening raised around £500.

Jan Casson, chairperson of the Pink on the Tyne volunteer group, said: “This was the second time we held the pink curry evening which has proved hugely popular, helping to raise over £1000 for the charity altogether. We’re very grateful to have the support of Forhad Miah, the manager at the restaurant, and all the staff who generously give up their time to help us in our mission to beat breast cancer.”

Lauren Baskett, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Community Development Manager, said: “This event is a great way to bring together friends, family and local businesses to help fundraise. It’s thanks to the generosity of people like Breast Cancer Campaign’s volunteers, the support from local businesses and everyone who attended that we are able to continue to fund vital research into the disease.”

The Breast Cancer Campaign volunteer group in North Tyneside plans fundraising and awareness events throughout the year to support the work of the charity. The next event will be a Zumba party in January 2012.
