Paint York Pink success!

A month-long fundraising initiative which saw York go pink in October is set to raise over £15,000 to help fund breast cancer research.

Breast Cancer Campaign’s Paint the Town Pink fundraising initiative, where the charity aims to turn York as pink as possible throughout October, returned for its third year and it was pinker than ever before.

There were a host of fundraising activities which took place across the city including collections at the Coppergate Centre and Monks Cross Shopping Centre. The initiative was also supported by Berwick Kaler, York’s pantomime Dame, who joined volunteers in the city centre to mark the start of Paint the Town Pink and encourage people to get involved.

The month of activity culminated in York’s Pink Walk. Back for a second year, over 70 people took part in the 5k walk through the city streets. As well as participants dressing in pink outfits, landmarks including the York Minster and buildings on Parliament Street were illuminated for the occasion.

Lauren Basket, Community Development Manager at Breast Cancer Campaign, said “Paint York Pink was once again a fantastic event and the Pink Walk was a great end to the month of fundraising. We’re thrilled with the support from the local community and thanks to everyone who got involved for helping raise money for vital research into breast cancer.”
