Local volunteer group calls for new recruits to help beat breast cancer

A volunteer group in Colchester is calling on all enthusiastic people to join them in the fight against breast cancer.

Upfront has been supporting Breast Cancer Campaign since it formed in 2008, helping organise and run fundraising events in the local area. The group of four local ladies are now looking for new recruits to help them support the work of the charity, which funds research into breast cancer.

The group meets regularly to come up with ways to fundraise, plan and organise events in aid of the charity. The group also acts as the local representatives of Breast Cancer Campaign, and can be asked to attend cheque presentations or support other fundraising events taking place in the area. Last year, they attended a cheque presentation at local football club, Colchester United.

Over the past three years Upfront has helped collect money for the charity on the streets of Colchester, encouraged local businesses to support breast cancer research, take part in fundraising challenges and held their own events such as a pink car boot sale to raise money for the charity.

Rachel Hawkridge, who has been a member of the group since it first formed, said: “I’ve met some amazing people and really enjoy being part of a local group that can make a real difference to people diagnosed with breast cancer. We are excited to welcome new volunteers to the group who will be great in bringing in new ideas and providing extra support so we can do more as a team.”

Upfront is one of 15 Breast Cancer Campaign volunteer groups based across the UK who are dedicated to beating breast cancer.
