A local girl’s school has won Breast Cancer Campaign’s ‘School of the Year’ award after raising over £4000 to help the charity continue funding research into the disease.
Pembridge Hall school in Notting Hill scooped the award in recognition of their fundraising efforts last year. The school held two ‘Pink Days’ last year, where staff, parents and students came to school dressed in pink for the day. There was a special tea and cakes afternoon for all involved, with donations being made to the charity.
Mr Barry Evans, headmaster at Pembridge School, said: “We are honoured to have won this award and it is a great achievement for all involved in the preparation and taking part in the day itself. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and we are proud to raise awareness and help fund research into the disease.”
Pamela Goldberg, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Chief Executive said: “Congratulations to Pembridge Hall school for winning this prestigious award for their outstanding fundraising. It is thanks to the continued support and commitment from people such as the staff, parents and pupils at Pembridge Hall that we are able to fund innovative world-class research to help us improve the lives of breast cancer patients and beat the disease.”
Mr Evans and parents who helped organise the event were presented with the award at Breast Cancer Campaign’s awards ceremony on Thursday 19 May 2011 at the House of Lords.
