Isle of Pink success!

The Isle of Wight was awash with colour last month as people across the island went pink to raise thousands of pounds for Breast Cancer Campaign.

Thanks to the help of local businesses, volunteers and supporters, the Isle of Pink fundraising initiative saw the island go pinker than ever before. There were plenty of activities that took place throughout the month including supermarket collections, pink days, and a Pink Aerobathon.

Pink fundraisers were spotted in town centres and at festivals, and shop owners turned their windows pink to help raise awareness! There were also murals painted including one by Hovertravel, painted to mark the end of the Isle of Pink month and wear it pink day, which took place on Friday 30 September. The mural was created by staff member Gareth Bloomfield.

Loretta Lale, Marketing Manager at Hovertravel said: "As the Isle of Pink month has become a regular feature in the calendar, Hovertravel has encouraged their customers to donate to this exceptionally worthy cause. This year, to celebrate the completion of another fabulous month of fundraising, we commissioned a unique mural to be displayed outside the Hovertravel Terminal for all to see. We hope that everybody has enjoyed this entertaining way to finish the Isle of Pink month”

Don’t worry if you missed out on activities throughout the pink month as there is still a chance to show your support. Islanders can take part in Campaign’s national wear it pink day on Friday 28 October and donate £2 each to breast cancer research. Visit wear it pink.co.uk or call 0800 107 3104 to register now.

Lauren Baskett, Breast Cancer Campaign’s Community Development Manager, said: “We’re delighted by how many people supported the Isle of Pink this year. Thanks to the help of the community, we saw pink at festivals, in shops, on the streets and in offices. We’d like to thank everyone who got involved, made a donation, volunteered, took part in the Pink Aerobathon or other events, you helped in making the event a huge success.”
