Budding runner Ged Grady from Sale, Manchester has pulled on his running shoes to train for the Bupa Great North Run in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign.
Ged will join 54,000 runners on the starting line for the 13.1 mile race in Newcastle on Sunday 18 September, after his family has been affected by cancer.
He said: “Supporting breast cancer research means a great deal to me after my sister Dorothy passed away after her battle with breast cancer last year. My younger sister Andrea is also now undergoing treatment for breast cancer, so I am running for Campaign in support of both of them.”
Ged, who was also diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 and is still undergoing treatment, said that supporting cancer research is a cause close to his heart. He continued: “We also lost our brother, Paul, to cancer many years ago at the age of 23, so cancer really has touched my family’s life from the beginning.”
Ged is aiming to raise £500 or more for Campaign and is already well on his way to reaching his target. He said: “I’m proud to run the Great North Run for Breast Cancer Campaign as I know that every penny I raise will go towards helping the charity take a step closer to beating breast cancer. Family and friends have been so supportive of my fundraising and I am also hoping to sell some produce from my allotment to the public to help reach my target.”
