CHICAGO, IL--- (23-Aug-11) --- The Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a united movement to reclaim the future for millions. In local communities throughout Illinois, participants will actively fight this disease by raising both funds and awareness as we look to a future without Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’sis the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. The Walk is a fun 3-mile interactive walk that educates participants about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment, and support programs and services of the Alzheimer’s Association.  Each walker will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease. However, these events are more than a memoriam tribute.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’sis the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk®; now the Alzheimer’s Association is continuing to lead the way with the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a direct call to action for all to participate, through events and advocacy, and realize the fight against Alzheimer’s starts with us. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s – the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death without an effective treatment or cure.

“There has never been a greater need for the citizens of Illinois to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease by participating in Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” said Lisa Lee, vice-president of development for the Greater Illinois Chapter. “Funds raised will provide care and support services to the 210,000 residents of Illinois living with Alzheimer’s, while also contributing to advancing critically-needed research.”
